Nobilo Fall Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2005 (New Zealand)
$15.65 (LCBO #554444)
I'm a great fan of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 2005. "Fall harvest" means the grapes will have extra ripeness, which translates into sweeter fruit. Medium straw in colour with a nose of passion fruit and newly cut grass. The flavour is sweet gooseberry and passion fruit, very fresh and lively on the palate. ****
Food match: goat cheese; Caesar salad

Southbrook Winery Cabernet 2003 (Ontario)
$14.95 (available at the winery, 1061 Major Mackenzie Drive, Richmond Hill; 905-832-2548)
A good value red in claret style. Deep ruby colour with a nose of cedar, dried tobacco leaf and red berries. Medium-bodied, sweet redcurrant flavour, well balanced, nicely integrated oak and soft tannins on the finish. ****
Food match: leg of lamb; Cornish hen

Bodega Norton Chardonnay 2004 (Argentina)
$10.75 (LCBO #589531)
This is a very tasty Chardonnay at a bargain price. Medium straw colour; a concentrated nose of pineapple and peach with buttery oak notes; full bodied, dry, lively on the palate with fresh acidity that gives it a lemony finish to complement the oak. ***½
Food match: grilled salmon; escalope of veal
